The President of Ukraine has signed a law on peculiarities of calculating the pre-trial investigation period under martial law. The law defines cases when the investigation period is not calculated, in particular in relation to war crimes.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law on the peculiarities of calculating the terms of pre-trial investigation under martial law. This was reported by UNN with reference to the card of the bill No. 9314-d.

"24.08.2024 - returned with the signature of the President of Ukraine," the document's status report reads.

The law comes into force on the day of its publication in the official printed edition of the Verkhovna Rada, the Voice of Ukraine.

According to the law, the pre-trial investigation period is not calculated in criminal proceedings for crimes under the articles "Planning, Preparation, Unleashing and Waging of Aggressive War", "Violation of the Laws and Customs of War", "Use of Weapons of Mass Destruction", and "Genocide".

The total period of pre-trial investigation will not be calculated when criminal proceedings are merged.

In criminal proceedings in which no person has been notified of suspicion from the date of entering information about a criminal offense into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations and as of the date of martial law in Ukraine, the period from the date of martial law to the date of its termination or cancellation is not included in the general time limits.
