Zelensky signs law on legalization of trophy weapons

The President of Ukraine has signed a draft law regulating the issue of trophy firearms. The law establishes the procedure for obtaining, declaring and handling weapons, coming into force three months after its publication.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a bill that will regulate the issue of trophy firearms, as well as establish the procedure for obtaining, declaring and handling them. This was reported by UNN with reference to the card of the bill No. 9538.

"24.08.2024 - returned with the signature of the President of Ukraine," the document's status report reads.

The law comes into force on the day following the day of its publication in the official gazette of the Verkhovna Rada, the Voice of Ukraine, but is enacted three months later.

Addendum

The draft law stipulates that civilians who find firearms, their main parts or ammunition must immediately notify the National Police of Ukraine and, within 24 hours, transfer them to law enforcement agencies in any convenient way for further surrender or declaration or indicate their location for further seizure.

Civilians are obliged to hand over their firearms and unused ammunition to the National Police no later than 90 days after the termination or lifting of martial law in Ukraine.

Civilians in possession of firearms and ammunition subject to declaration must contact the National Police within one month to declare or hand them over.
