US National Security Advisor Sullivan said that negotiations on the exchange of detainees and diplomacy over the war in Ukraine are different areas. The US will consult with allies to support Ukraine in diplomacy.

Negotiations on the exchange of detainees with Russia and diplomacy over the war in Ukraine are different directions, said US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan at a briefing on August 1, UNN reports.

We see no connection between the hostage negotiations - or the negotiations on detainees - and any potential diplomacy on the war in Ukraine. We see them as working on different tracks

- Sullivan said, answering the question whether the interaction with the Russians on the exchange of detainees lays any groundwork for discussions about the war in Ukraine with Ukrainians.

"One is the practical issue of making this exchange happen. The other is a much more complicated issue where Ukrainians will be in the lead, and the United States will consult closely with all of our allies to support them when they are ready to step forward and engage in this kind of diplomacy," the National Security Advisor emphasized.
