Ukrainians’ trust in Zelenskyy has fallen to 55%, but the majority oppose holding elections during the war — poll

At the beginning of August this year, trust in President Volodymyr Zelenskyy among Ukrainians fell from 58% to 55% compared with April this year. This was reported by UNN, citing a poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

The poll was conducted from July 20 to August 3, 2026. A total of 974 respondents aged 18 and over were surveyed in all regions of Ukraine, except for territories occupied by Russia. According to the sociologists, 55% of those surveyed trust Zelenskyy, while 40% do not trust him (the trust-distrust balance is +15%).

At the same time, in May, 61% of Ukrainians trusted the president, while 34% did not.

Compared with April, we are also recording a decline in trust in V. Zelenskyy. However, at least for now, we are not observing a collapse in trust due to high-profile personnel decisions, which some politicians, experts and commentators may have expected

In addition, sociologists advise taking into account the fact that among the 54% who trust Zelenskyy, 20% "completely" trust him, while the remaining 34% "rather" trust him.

At the same time, for balance, it is important to understand that among those who do not trust him, there is a division: 19% "completely" distrust him, while 20% "rather" distrust him

At the same time, the stable trend continues: the majority of Ukrainians oppose holding elections in the near future, before the hostilities end.

Only 15% currently (12% the last time, in March) believe that elections should be held even before the hostilities end. Another 23% believe that elections can be held after a ceasefire and the receipt of security guarantees. Compared with March, the share of such people increased from 13% to 23%. Meanwhile, since March, the share of those who believe that elections should be held only after a final peace agreement and the complete end of the war has decreased from 69% to 57%. At the same time, the majority still believe that elections should be held only after the war has completely ended
