Ukraine launches pet registry: what owners need to know

The Unified State Register of Pets is being launched in Ukraine, and it will be carried out in two stages: first, authorization of veterinarians, and then registration of animals, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval said on Telegram on Monday, UNN reports.

"The first stage of the launch of the Unified State Register of Pets is starting. Today, authorization for veterinarians has been opened," Koval said.

What is the Unified State Register of Pets

This is a state registry on the Diia.Engine platform. It will store data on cats, dogs, and ferrets: the name and description of the animal, information on vaccination and biosterilization, contacts of owners or keepers, and other data essential for the animal's health.

Purpose of this Register:

• help prevent the spread of dangerous diseases more effectively;
• harmonize Ukrainian legislation on the treatment of animals with the European one;
• to create a culture of responsible owners who take proper care of their pets.

"The register will be implemented in two stages. At the first stage, which has already started, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy will focus on engaging veterinary clinics and doctors in working with the platform," the minister said.

How to log in

1. Submit an application to the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection. To do this, the head of the veterinary medicine institution fills out an application in the office in the Register - it takes no more than 30 minutes. The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection must verify the data in the application within 10 business days, approve or reject the application and send a notification of the result of the review to the applicant's e-mail. 
2. After confirming the authorization, the head of the veterinary institution will be able to enter data on veterinarians who will directly register four-legged patients in the Register. After that, veterinarians-Registration Agents must log in to their offices in the Register and complete their data.
3. After successful authorization, the veterinary institution will be ready to start registering pets along with the official start of the second stage of the Registry launch - the animal registration campaign, which will be announced later.
