US President Donald Trump said this is the last chance for Iran to reach a deal, canceling strikes at the request of allies. He suggested that the Strait of Hormuz could open by Tuesday, and denuclearization would be the second stage.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that this is the "last chance" for Iran to "sign a good document" with the United States after he again called off strikes and promised to continue negotiations at the request of Persian Gulf allies, UNN reports citing CNN.
"Many countries called," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. "They all wanted to give this one last chance. This is the last chance."
When asked by reporters what had changed this time given that he had previously called off attacks, Trump said: "I want to give them all the last chances before beheading."
Trump said negotiations with Iran "will go quickly," suggesting that the Strait of Hormuz could be fully opened by Tuesday, which he considers the "first phase" of the deal.
"It's not very complicated," Trump said, despite the difficulties the administration faces in ending the months-long war.
"The second phase" is denuclearization, which he acknowledged "will take some time."
The publication notes that both of these goals were part of a memorandum of understanding signed by Iran and the United States in June.
