Three traitors who fought against Ukrainian troops in the areas of Avdiivka, Bakhmut and Lysychansk were suspected. Another, who tried to break through to Kupyansk, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Law enforcers have collected evidence against four more traitors who fought against the Defense Forces on the eastern front, including the storming of Avdiivka. One of them has already been sentenced to 15 years in prison. This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine, UNN reports.

Details

The convict was captured by Ukrainian defenders in the spring of this year, when he was trying to break through to Kupyansk as part of an enemy unit. He was a resident of the temporarily occupied Crimea.

In early 2024, while in Moscow, he "enlisted" in the ranks of the occupiers at the local military enlistment office. From there, he was sent to the 2nd Motorized Rifle Division of the Russian Armed Forces, where he participated in "meat assaults" on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kupyansk direction.

Three more traitors were captured during fierce fighting in the areas of Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Lysychansk earlier this summer.

They lived in the temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. From there, the men voluntarily "mobilized" to the occupation groups of the Russian Federation. Some of them reportedly joined before the outbreak of full-scale war.

For example, one of the perpetrators was a flamethrower in the ranks of the Russian-controlled "people's militia of the lPR". As part of the enemy group, he participated in the capture of Popasna and Lysychansk. Later, he was "sent" to fire at the frontline positions of Ukrainian defenders near Bilohorivka.

Another traitor arrived at the Russian military enlistment office in Kaluga, where he signed a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry.

After a short course of combat training, he was appointed a rifleman in the 1008th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces and sent to fight near Bakhmut.

Another defendant was a repeat offender who joined the Vostok motorized rifle regiment of the aggressor country to pay off his conviction. There he participated in combat operations in the Avdiivka area.

Law enforcement officers served the three captured traitors suspicion notices under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • paras. 1, 2 Art. 111 (high treason committed under martial law);
  • ч. 7 of Art. 111-1 (voluntary participation of a citizen of Ukraine in illegal armed or paramilitary groups created in the temporarily occupied territory and/or in the armed groups of the aggressor state).

Under the same articles, an aggressor's accomplice from the temporarily occupied Crimea received a real prison term.
