The UN Secretary-General strongly condemns Iran's attack on Israel with the use of more than 200 drones and missiles, calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and maximum restraint, emphasizing that the world cannot afford a new war.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations said he "strongly condemns" the "serious escalation" that the attack on Israel by Iran represents. This is stated in a statement by Guterres in social networks, UNN reports .

He also called on all sides to exercise "maximum restraint" in the wake of the attack, which the Israeli military said involved more than 200 drones and missiles.

Iran had previously announced the launch of dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles toward Israel. According to Israeli media, more than 100 drones were launched in total. The Israeli army began shooting them down over the territory of Syria and Jordan.
The Iranian attack was a response to an Israeli strike on the diplomatic quarter in Damascus, where the Iranian embassy complex is located. Two Iranian generals and five officers were killed. Western countries urged citizens not to visit the region.
