The long-range kamikaze drone used to attack Russia: what is known about the development of Ukrainian engineers
Kyiv • UNN
Ukrainian engineers have modified a light civilian airplane into a long-range drone. The drone has a stealthy engine, radar protection, and has successfully attacked targets at a distance of over 1200 km.
Ukrainian engineers have turned a light civilian airplane into a heavy long-range kamikaze drone. This is reported by the German newspaper BILD, UNN reports.
Details
It is noted that Ukrainian engineers have managed to turn a civilian light aircraft into a deadly weapon capable of carrying a large warhead and having a range of over 1000 km.
This drone, despite its large size, proved to be a difficult target for Russian air defense systems due to its design.
The drone is equipped with a stealthy engine that does not heat up to high temperatures like most missiles, making it difficult for Russian air defense radars to detect. In addition, a special film provides protection from radar, and flying at low altitudes and low speeds provides additional advantages in evading enemy systems.
Kamikaze drone is particularly effective in attacks on Russian territory.
The most famous case was the attack on the Shahed kamikaze drone factory in Tatarstan, which is located 1,200 kilometers from Ukraine.
The attack took place in April 2024 at about six in the morning local time, when explosions occurred on the territory of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, located near the city of Yelabuga.
It is also reported that this type of drone was used to strike Russian targets in Grozny and other regions at a considerable distance from the border with Ukraine.
Recall
Ukraine is working to develop a new Trembita missile with a range to Moscow. The basic version has a speed of 400 km/h and a range of 200 km, and production is planned after the completion of tests.
