The EU Council has approved the allocation of €10 million from the European Peace Fund for the Armenian armed forces. The assistance is aimed at strengthening material and technical capacities and improving the protection of civilians.
Today, on July 22, the EU Council for the first time approved the allocation of assistance under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support the Armenian armed forces in the amount of 10 million euros. This was reported by UNN with reference to the press service of the EU Council.
For the first time, the EU has decided to support Armenia from the European Peace Fund. The aim of this assistance measure is to strengthen the logistical capacity of the Armenian armed forces and to contribute to the improvement of the protection of civilians in crisis and emergency situations
The assistance is also aimed at increasing Armenia's resilience and accelerating the interoperability of its armed forces in the event of possible future participation in international military missions and operations, including those deployed by the EU.
In particular, the adopted measure will make it possible to provide a full-fledged deployed tent camp for a battalion-sized unit.
It is noted that the EU is committed to expanding the comprehensive political and economic partnership with Armenia, based on and further strengthening relations in all their dimensions. This includes intensified dialogue and cooperation in the field of foreign and security policy, in particular the Common Security and Defense Policy.
The European Peace Facility was established in March 2021 to finance activities under the Common Foreign and Security Policy aimed at preventing conflicts, preserving peace and strengthening international security and stability. In particular, the European Peace Fund allows the EU to finance actions aimed at strengthening the capacity of third countries, regional and international organizations in the field of military and defense.
