Ukraine has fulfilled the necessary criteria governing national minority issues required to start negotiations on EU accession. The introduction of any norms in Ukrainian legislation concerning the Russian national minority will not end Russia's war against Ukraine. This was reported by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olga Stefanishyna, UNN correspondent reports.
Details
Please note that there have been many changes to the legislation governing national minority issues, the status of the Russian national minority, not the Russian-speaking population. There were conclusions of the Venice Commission. The complex of all these decisions, assessments and measures taken allowed the European Commission to say that we have fulfilled all the necessary criteria for starting negotiations in this area. I would like to draw attention to the fact that there are no restrictions on persons who are considered to be members of Russian national minorities. They have the same rights and restrictions under the law as others
She added that there are certain restrictions on language for some security reasons, which is obvious in a war when the aggressor is the Russian Federation, which carries its aggression through a package of propaganda narratives of the “Russian world.
These are certainly justified restrictions
She also noted that the war and the reforms necessary for EU membership are at the top of the agenda.
And when certain former politicians or current European politicians start clinging to such small things, it only destabilizes. If we introduce into the legislation some norms concerning the Russian national minority, this will not end the war, and we will not get closer to victory
