The annual spring-summer spawning ban on fishing for aquatic bioresources begins on April 1 in Ukraine, with the exception of certain water bodies, in order to create favorable conditions for fish spawning and protect fish populations during the crucial spawning period.

The spawning ban on fishing and other aquatic bioresources starts on April 1. The State Agency of Ukraine for the Development of Land Reclamation, Fisheries and Food Programs warned about this, UNN reports.

To create favorable conditions for spawning, the annual spring and summer spawning ban on the catch of aquatic bioresources will begin on April 1, 2024, in the vast majority of fishery water bodies in Ukraine. At the same time, we would like to draw fishermen's attention to the fact that the ban will start on April 5 at the Dnipro Reservoir, and on April 8 at the Kyiv, Kaniv, Kremenchuk, and Kamianske Reservoirs.

- the agency said in a warning.

Details

The State Agency for Fisheries Development reminded that spawning is one of the most important periods in the development of fish populations. The quality and quantity of fish in water bodies in the near future depends on the success of this period.

The powerful natural instinct of spawning becomes the main one in fish, it muffles the reflexes of self-preservation. At this time, fish can become easy prey for poachers. Today, during the war, when the Russian occupiers are already destroying the lives of our fish populations everywhere, it is very important to give fish the opportunity to spawn in peace. Therefore, I urge everyone to treat spawning fish responsibly and adhere to the established restrictions.

- Ihor Klymenok, Acting Head of the State Fisheries Agency, emphasized.

The agency noted that fishing is possible during this period. But only from the shore outside the spawning grounds and with a regular fishing rod or spinning rod with no more than two hooks or one artificial lure.

It is strictly prohibited during spawning to move on water bodies of all vehicles or motorized vessels (except for established ship passages), except for vessels used by fish protection authorities and other authorized state authorities.

The ban on fishing also applies to commercial fishing and spearfishing.

Failure to comply with these requirements is punishable by administrative fines and criminal liability, as well as compensation for damages caused to the fishery. Therefore, we would like to warn fishermen who are not very law-abiding against violations, given that during the spawning season, fish guards of the State Fisheries Agency exercise enhanced control over water bodies.

- the agency reminded.

The duration of the spawning ban differs depending on the regions and water bodies. For more information on the duration of the ban in individual regions, please see the orders of the territorial offices of the State Fisheries Agency at the following links:
