SpaceX investor predicts imminent emergence of AI data centers in orbit

Orbital data centers could become the next stage in the development of artificial intelligence after the commissioning of SpaceX's Starship rocket. This opinion was expressed by David George, general partner of the investment company Andreessen Horowitz and an investor in SpaceX, Bloomberg reports, writes UNN.

According to George, the key role is played by the possibility of rapid reuse of Starship, which will allow large computing capacities to be launched into orbit. He described future systems as "racks of graphics processors the size of an airplane in space."

At a minimum, orbital data centers will be additional capacities that can be placed in space in addition to those we have on Earth

- George said.

He noted that ground-based data centers face growing constraints, so in the future economic conditions may favor the development of space infrastructure. At the same time, Starship, considered the most powerful rocket ever built, is still undergoing testing. During its last flight in May, the rocket launched satellite mock-ups into orbit, but the system has not yet delivered commercial payloads.
