According to the Israeli medical service MDA, four people were injured in the shelling, three of them in serious condition and one in a moderate condition. Four other people were slightly injured by broken glass.
The al-Qassam Brigade took responsibility for the Syrian, calling him 46-year-old Samir Muhammad Ahmad Hussein.
IDF troops stationed in the area returned fire, killing him.
However, the Israel Defense Forces believes that the terrorist did not act alone, and that other accomplices could have provided him with an M-16 assault rifle and the car in which he carried out the attack.
However, a military source said that the army ruled out the possibility of a second terrorist appearing after scanning the area around the Gitai-Avisar intersection where the attack took place.
