The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, announced the achievements of the National Strategy for a Barrier-Free Environment until 2023, including new standards for digital services, compensation for employers for employees with disabilities, and updated building codes for accessibility.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal spoke about the achievements in the implementation of the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Space in Ukraine for 2023, UNN reports.

Barrier-free accessibility is an urgent need for millions of Ukrainians today. Together with the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska and the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, we held the final meeting of the Barrier-Free Council.

According to him, this year the Government has managed to implement a number of projects on barrier-free space.

The Ministry of Digital Transformation has introduced European standards for digital communications of public authorities, which are now being implemented in practice in all public digital services;

The Ministry of Economy has launched a compensation program for employers who have equipped a workplace for a specialist with a disability.

The Ministry of Reconstruction is updating state building codes to meet barrier-free requirements. This year, standards for hospitals, shelters and shelters, and requirements for temporary structures were adopted.

The Ministry of Health continues to systematically introduce active evidence-based rehabilitation step by step.

In April, the Government defined a plan to create a barrier-free space in Ukraine. It involves 20 ministries that are supposed to ensure that people with disabilities and vulnerable groups have free access to education, employment, transportation, and other important areas of life.
