The SBI exposed a scheme of illegal receipt of combat payments by the wife of a colonel of the Armed Forces medical service. The woman received almost UAH 1 million.

The State Bureau of Investigation reported that it had exposed a colonel of the medical service who helped his wife receive almost a million in "combat" payments while remaining in the rear, UNN reports.

SBI officers served a notice of suspicion to a colonel of the medical service and a serviceman who issued combat payments to a nurse who stayed at home. The military was also served a notice of suspicion

- the bureau said.

According to the SBI, in June 2022, a colonel of the medical service of one of the Armed Forces of Ukraine arrived in eastern Ukraine to perform combat missions. His wife was not in the military and was at home with their child.

"However, the colonel reached an agreement with the commander of the medical company and in July 2023 'employed' his wife to serve in the unit. The woman never showed up at the unit's location, but received monthly combat payments on the basis of fictitious documents. Thus, for 8 months of alleged service, she illegally received almost UAH 1 million," the SBI said in a statement.

The military officer, his wife and the commander of the medrota were notified of suspicion of embezzlement of property by abuse of office, in a particularly large scale, by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, under martial law (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The commander of the medical company was also served a notice of suspicion of knowingly making false official documents (Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the articles provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property.

The issue of compensation for damages is being resolved.
