The SBU and the Prosecutor General's Office have charged in absentia a Russian judge who illegally sentenced a captured National Guardsman to 19 years in prison. The judge violated international law, as a prisoner of war cannot be imprisoned for participation in combat.

Based on materials from the Security Service of Ukraine and the Office of the Prosecutor General, a Russian judge who illegally imprisoned captured Ukrainian soldiers has been charged in absentia. This is reported by UNN with reference to the statement of the SBU.
Details
It is noted that law enforcement officers have documented war crimes of another judge of the Southern District Military Court of the Russian Federation. The perpetrator is involved in sentencing Ukrainian prisoners of war to imprisonment on false charges. At the same time, his surname and first name cannot be disclosed at this time due to procedural restrictions.
As the investigation found, the Russian illegally sentenced a captured soldier of the National Guard of Ukraine to 19 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony. It was established that this "judge" of the military court of the Russian Federation staged a show "trial" based on fabricated charges to send the Ukrainian defender to a Russian prison
It is indicated that in this way the suspect grossly violated the norms of international law, according to which the victim is a combatant of an armed conflict. In the event of capture, such a person acquires the status of a prisoner of war and is not subject to imprisonment for participation in hostilities.
"Since the perpetrator is on the territory of the Russian Federation, comprehensive measures are ongoing to find him and bring him to justice for crimes against Ukrainians," the SBU added.
