Russia launched a fake about "construction of a memorial in honor of UPA leaders" - CPD

Information that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on the construction of a large-scale memorial in honor of the UPA leaders in Volyn is a Russian fake. This is reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (CCD), informs UNN.

Details

It is noted that a fabricated news story, styled as a piece from the international TV channel France 24, is being spread through a network of anonymous accounts on social media. It claims that Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly signed a decree on the construction of a memorial complex in honor of the UPA leaders near Lutsk in Volyn.

Propagandists claim that the project, worth 70 million euros, will be financed by the European Union, and that construction will supposedly start on July 11 - the day when Poland commemorates the victims of the Volyn tragedy

- the article states.

It is indicated that in reality, this story is completely fabricated: the leadership of the English-language editorial office of France 24 officially confirmed that the channel never created or aired this material, and the "presidential decree" shown in the video is a fake, as the document with that number has a completely different content.

Also, the context of the real draft law No. 15360 was used to create this lie. However, this document concerns the creation of a national Pantheon in Kyiv to honor prominent figures of Ukrainian history from different eras, not the construction of a separate UPA complex in Volyn

- they said at the CCD.

There, they emphasize that Russia's goal is to undermine the unity between the two nations, provoke political tension between Kyiv and Warsaw, and reduce the level of support for Ukraine from Poland.

"This disinformation dump is part of a large-scale Russian information operation aimed at destabilizing Ukrainian-Polish relations. The use of fake videos and logos of international media is a classic tool of the Russian disinformation network 'Matryoshka'," the CCD concludes.

Reminder

Earlier, the Center for Countering Disinformation refuted a Russian fake about Ukraine allegedly preparing a terrorist attack against its own population. The disinformation dump was accompanied by a fake video.
