Rada restores the possibility to confiscate property from corrupt officials who have entered into a plea deal with the investigation

The Verkhovna Rada has passed a law allowing for the confiscation of property from corrupt officials who have entered into a plea agreement. Draft law No. 12243-1 was supported by 276 MPs.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted as a whole a draft lawaccording to which, if a corrupt official is released from serving a probationary sentence on the basis of a plea agreement, he or she may also be subject to an additional punishment in the form of confiscation of property.

Details

According to Zheleznyak, a total of 276 MPs supported draft law No. 12243-1 on the return of the rule on confiscation of corrupt officials' property in case of a deal with the investigation.

In case of release from serving a sentence of probation on the basis of a plea agreement in criminal proceedings regarding a corruption criminal offense or a corruption-related criminal offense, an additional penalty in the form of confiscation of property may also be imposed, provided that it is agreed upon by the parties to the agreement
