In this year's Christmas message, Pope Francis begged for peace for Ukraine, UNN reports citing Vatican News.

Details

In a message on December 25 from the loggia of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, Pope Francis emphasized that the infinite God who dwells among us fills us with trust and hope, and therefore becomes a source of "great" joy. As always, my thoughts go out to those whose joy is overshadowed by wars, misfortunes, and poverty.

With my eyes fixed on the Child Jesus, I ask for peace for Ukraine. Let us renew our spiritual and human intimacy with its suffering people, so that through the support of each of us they may experience the concreteness of God's love

- Pope Francis urged.

Reportedly, tens of thousands of pilgrims gathered on the square in front of the basilica on Christmas Day. Among the variety of flags, Ukrainian flags were also flying.
