In 2023, beer consumption in Georgia will reach 133 million liters, according to the consulting company Galt & Taggart, reports UNN with reference to Novosti Georgia.

Since 2016, beer consumption in Georgia has been growing steadily, by an average of 5.1% per year. In 2023, each resident of the country consumed approximately 45 liters of beer. Nevertheless, in terms of per capita consumption, Georgia is still far behind European countries, where 79 liters of beer are consumed per person per year.

According to the study, 92% of Georgia's consumption is met by local production. The rest is imported, mainly from Germany, Russia and Belgium.

Other trends in the beer market in Georgia:

In 2016-2023, beer production in Georgia grew by about 3% per year. It is expected to reach 126 million liters in 2023.

In January-November, Georgia exported $7.9 million worth of beer, up 98.7% year-on-year. This growth is primarily attributed to increased sales in Kazakhstan and other CIS countries.

In January-September, the sector's turnover amounted to GEL 446.1 million, up 15.2% compared to the same period in 2022.

Beer consumption is seasonally dependent, with 60% of sales occurring between May and September. During sporting events, beer consumption is 25% higher than average.

The most popular beer in Georgia is in 2.5-liter plastic bottles.

Kegged beer is mostly sold in bars, restaurants, and festivals, and it is the fastest growing category of the beer market after the coronavirus pandemic.
