A Pentagon spokesman said the department is focused on working with Congress to approve additional aid to Ukraine, remaining optimistic that an agreement will be reached.

The U.S. Department of Defense is focusing on working with Congress to get additional aid to Ukraine approved and remains optimistic that agreement on this issue will be reached. This was stated by Pentagon spokesman Major General Patrick Ryder in an interview with Radio Liberty, UNN reports.

From the perspective of the U.S. government in general and the Department of Defense in particular, we are focused on getting additional assistance from our Congress. What we do know is that there is strong support for this package in Congress from both parties. So we remain optimistic that our Congress will come to an agreement and support this package. In the meantime, we're going to continue to work closely with our allies and partners, many of whom are providing significant assistance to Ukraine. And, of course, we all appreciate it very much. So that will be the focus of our efforts.

According to him, the recent US aid package to Ukraine, when the Pentagon was able to find cost savings in some contracts, is seen as an "extraordinary case" and "not one of those things that we can really count on happening again." So, he indicated, the "focus" is "working with our Congress to get additional assistance to Ukraine approved.

"We are cognizant of the fact that the amount and scope of assistance that they need does require the kind of funds that we have been asking for from our Congress. So we're going to continue to work closely with them and try to make sure that they have the information they need about how important this is for Ukraine," Ryder said.
