The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights said that Russia is violating international law by not allowing the ICRC to visit Ukrainian prisoners of war and preventing confirmation of their status, but Ukraine is working to speed up the exchange of prisoners through new intermediary countries.

Russia, in violation of international law, does not allow the ICRC to visit Ukrainian prisoners of war, preventing confirmation of their status, while Ukraine is working to speed up the exchange through new intermediary countries. This was stated by the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets on Tuesday on Telegram, UNN reports.

The Russian Federation, in violation of international law, does not allow ICRC representatives to visit Ukrainian prisoners of war. That is why the procedure for confirming their status does not take place to the extent that we would like

- Lubinets wrote.

At the same time, according to the Ombudsman, the status of a prisoner of war and a missing person does not affect the repatriation process. Almost 40% of those who have already been returned home were considered missing.

"To speed up the exchanges, Ukraine is trying to attract new intermediary countries. To date, the United Arab Emirates has publicly joined the Ukrainian side," he said.
