Odesa detains TCC employee who helped fugitives flee abroad

An employee of the Odesa military commissariat was detained for smuggling draft evaders abroad. The suspect faces up to nine years in prison.

In Odesa region, law enforcement officers detained an employee of the territorial center for recruitment and social support who illegally transported evaders abroad. This was stated by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region, UNN reports.

Details

Investigators found that in October of this year a military man , while serving in one of the military training centers in Odesa, together with his brother received $7,000 from a relative of a person liable for military service. In return, they promised to influence military officials and help the man get discharged from military service.

Later, law enforcement officers found out that , as a serviceman already in a position in another TCC and MCC in Odesa region, had independently found a man who wanted to leave the country.  

The detainee, together with currently unknown accomplices, promised that for 10 thousand dollars he would issue the man a guardianship over a disabled person or a so-called "white" ticket, which would allow him to cross the state border through an official checkpoint.

The man was detained when he received a $100 deposit on a crypto wallet.

Currently, police investigators have notified the suspect of suspicion of organizing the illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, for mercenary motives under Part 3 of Art. 332, as well as in obtaining an undue advantage for himself for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions, under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine

 - said Deputy Head of the Investigation Department of the territorial police unit Anastasia Chernenko.

The maximum penalty facing the suspect is nine years in prison, with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.

It is noted that at the request of the investigators, the court imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the right to post bail in the amount of 214 thousand hryvnias. After the bail was paid, the suspect was released from custody

Instead, the brother of the military was served a notice of suspicion of obtaining an undue benefit for a third party for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code. This crime is punishable by a fine of 34 to 85 thousand hryvnias or imprisonment for a term of two to five years.

The issue of choosing a preventive measure against him is currently being decided.

The agency added that law enforcement officers are identifying other persons involved in the illegal activities.
