New 2000 hryvnia banknote will not affect inflation - NBU Governor

NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyi stated that the introduction of the 2000 hryvnia banknote on September 4 will not affect inflation. The new banknote will be exchanged for non-cash funds or replace withdrawn banknotes, without increasing the money supply.

The introduction of the new 2000 hryvnia banknote will not affect inflation. This was stated by the Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Andriy Pyshnyi, commenting on the decision to put the new denomination into circulation during a telethon, reports UNN.

The NBU Chairman noted that starting September 4, the National Bank is putting a higher denomination banknote into circulation. It will be exchanged for non-cash funds held in accounts, or will enter circulation to replace banknotes that are being withdrawn from use.
The amount of money in the economy does not increase. The National Bank is not conducting additional issuance. On September 4, the National Bank is introducing a new higher denomination banknote. It will be exchanged for non-cash money in your accounts, or will be issued into circulation to replace those banknotes that are being withdrawn from circulation
Andriy Pyshnyi also emphasized that the introduction of the new banknote will reduce logistics costs for the National Bank and the state. Also, according to him, overhead costs for cash servicing in trade will decrease.
The advantage for the National Bank and the state is that logistics costs are reduced. The national currency is used as a currency for storing savings accordingly. Although in fact, savings should be kept in hryvnia assets, domestic government bonds, or deposits - this is reliable and protects against inflation. For cash servicing in trade, overhead costs accordingly decrease
Furthermore, the NBU Chairman emphasized that the new banknote will not affect inflation in any way.
