Most UPL clubs opposed changes in the new regulations regarding the limit on foreign players

Most UPL clubs have appealed to the UAF Executive Committee with a request to review the new regulations, which allow up to eight foreign players on the field. The clubs propose to keep the rule requiring a minimum of four Ukrainian footballers on the field at the same time.

The majority of clubs in the Ukrainian Premier League have appealed to the Executive Committee of the Ukrainian Association of Football regarding the cancellation of newly introduced changes to the regulations on the limit for foreign players. This was reported by the UPL press service, according to UNN.

As reported by the UPL, on Wednesday in Kyiv, the General Meeting of Participants of the Association of Professional Football Clubs of Ukraine "Premier League" took place, where participants reviewed and discussed an appeal from a group of UPL clubs concerning the number of Ukrainian footballers who can simultaneously be on the field during UPL competition matches.
"By a majority of votes, a decision was made to submit to the UAF Executive Committee a petition to consider the clubs' proposal, according to which at least four footballers who are citizens of Ukraine may be simultaneously on the field," the statement reads.
Participants also discussed and approved a decision on the amounts of expenses for match officials in UPL competitions for the 2026/27 season.
"This decision also requires approval by the UAF Executive Committee," the UPL added.

The Ukrainian Association of Football has approved a new regulation for the Ukrainian Premier League for the 2026-2027 season.
According to the updated regulations, from now on, the number of foreign players who can be simultaneously on the field as part of one team may be eight — provided that one of them is a citizen of an EU member state. In this case, at least three Ukrainians must participate in the match.
If there is no footballer who is a citizen of a European Union member state in the team on the field, at least four footballers who are citizens of Ukraine must be simultaneously on the field.
Previously, no more than 7 foreign players could be simultaneously on the field as part of a club team during a match.
Fees for foreign players are also changing. The amount of fees for foreign players increases from 150 thousand hryvnias to 400 thousand hryvnias per player.
