Details
The State Ecological Inspectorate in Chernihiv Oblast received a report through the EcoThreat app about a massive fish kill in a lake (quarry) in the center of Vediltsi village of Mykhailo-Kotsiubynske territorial community.
Ecologists visited the site and confirmed the death of valuable fish species, including pike, roach and perch, on an area of 0.04 hectares. Preliminary results of water analysis showed that the fish deaths could have been caused by a sharp drop in dissolved oxygen concentration to 3.5-3.7 mg/dm³, which is below the standard level of 4.0 mg/dm³.
According to the calculations, the losses from the death of fish and loss of offspring amount to UAH 258 thousand 243. To clean up the water body and prevent further pollution, the State Ecological Inspectorate sent a letter of demand to the Mykhailo-Kotsiubynske territorial community to take the necessary measures.
