Latvia has declared a Russian diplomat persona non grata and expelled him from the country until April 10 due to "unacceptable and provocative public statements by the Russian Embassy"
The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Federation Oleg Zykov and expressed a strong protest to him. The reason for this was "unacceptable and provocative public statements by the embassy". One of the Russian diplomats has been declared persona non grata and has to leave Latvia by April 10, the press service of the Latvian Foreign Ministry reported, UNN reports.

The ministry did not explain what exactly the Russian embassy's statements were.
During the presidential elections in Russia, the Russian Embassy in Latvia reported cases of confiscation of Latvian identity documents from Russians who came to vote.
The diplomatic mission also reported that the embassy was surrounded by Latvian security forces, who checked the documents of all those who came.
