In Ukraine, low water levels in rivers amid heat - revealed where record-low levels are

The Ministry of Economy reported persistent low water levels on most rivers of Ukraine, particularly on the Dniester and Southern Bug, where water levels are below minimum values. As a result, water use was restricted for 185 consumers in July.
Low water levels are being recorded on Ukraine's rivers, with some water bodies seeing record-low water levels, the Ministry of Economy and Environment reported on Tuesday, writes UNN.

"Water resources are among the most vulnerable to climate change. Ukraine is already experiencing the consequences of prolonged heat periods, precipitation deficits, and increased evaporation. On most of the country's rivers, persistent low water levels persist, and historically low water levels are being recorded on some water bodies," the Ministry of Economy reported.
As noted, this affects not only ecosystems but also water supply, agriculture, energy, and the economy. Such a situation requires constant monitoring and systemic solutions to ensure the country's water security.
As of August 3, low summer low-water conditions are observed on most of the country's rivers. The most difficult situation is on the rivers of the Carpathian region, tributaries of the Middle Dnipro, Prypiat, and Pivdennyi Buh. At some hydrological stations on the Dniester, Orawa, Rika, Vicha, Turia, Western Buh, Turiya, Styr, and Pivdennyi Buh rivers, water levels have already fallen below the minimum values for the entire observation period
The Ministry of Economy and Environment, together with the State Water Resources Agency and the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, continue constant monitoring of the hydrological situation. One of the response measures to prolonged low water levels has been the restriction of the right to special water use. During July alone, such restrictions were introduced for 185 water users in various regions of Ukraine.
