Greece to pay millions of euros in compensation to victims of wildfire near Athens

The Greek government will offer compensation totaling millions of euros to households and businesses affected by a large-scale fire near Athens. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.

Details

So far, inspections have identified about 146 houses that were severely damaged by the fire, as well as 31 businesses.

The government will offer up to 150 thousand euros, 80% in the form of state aid and 20% in the form of interest-free loans, as well as up to 500 thousand euros to destroyed enterprises, the Greek Ministry of Finance said.

It is not known exactly how much the government has budgeted for such compensation. But a government official told the publication that the amount will exceed 30 million euros, including 5.2 million euros in additional subsidies to affected municipalities.

The Greek Prime Minister's Office said it will announce a detailed fire protection and reforestation plan for the Attica region by the end of September.
