The Cabinet of Ministers approves a bill to increase payments to families of fallen civilian defenders from UAH 1.9 million to UAH 15 million. The government is also stepping up support for veterans' sports for rehabilitation.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft law that proposes to increase from UAH 1.9 million to UAH 15 million payments to the families of civilians who died defending the state during the full-scale invasion. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, reports UNN.

“Today we have approved two bills aimed at supporting veterans and honoring the feat of our defenders. The first concerns a fair approach to determining payments to the families of fallen defenders,” Shmyhal wrote.

He noted that at the beginning of the full-scale war, many Ukrainians took up arms and defended the state as civilians.

“The families of such deceased civilians are entitled to a payment of UAH 1.9 million. We propose to increase it to UAH 15 million, and we believe it is right and fair. This will help support the families of those who died defending our country and future,” said Shmyhal.

The second bill, he said, concerns veteran sports, which the government sees as one of the key elements for rehabilitation and adaptation.

“We are strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Veterans in this area and the use of the existing network of sports facilities for veterans,” Shmyhal said.
