It is noted that the authorities did not name the cause of his death.
Kuwait's deputy ruler and half-brother, Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber, now 83, is expected to take over as ruler, although no official announcement has been made.
Sheikh Nawaf has served as Minister of Defense, Minister of Interior, and Deputy Prime Minister. In 2006, he was appointed heir to the throne of the al-Sabah dynasty.
