Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro has decided to keep ESPN as part of the company amid the expansion of digital services and the development of streaming platforms. ESPN itself declined to comment.
Betting on streaming instead of business separation
Analysts have speculated for years about a possible spinoff of ESPN, especially after Disney began reporting the financial results of this division separately. At the same time, the company's management has repeatedly denied such plans.
In August, ESPN launched its own streaming service with a subscription of about $30 per month, which allows users to watch live broadcasts, match results, and highlights. The decision not to spin off the business indicates Disney's intention to develop sports content as part of its overall media strategy.
