Director of a psychoneurological boarding school in Ternopil region detained for human trafficking

The director of the institution forced people with mental disorders to work on private farms and construction sites. He personally received the money for their labor.

Law enforcement officers detained the director of a psychoneurological nursing home in the Ternopil region on suspicion of human trafficking. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the investigation, the head of the institution exploited the vulnerable condition of people aged 30 to 79 with mental disorders.
People were forced to work on private farms, construction sites, and clean cemeteries. For a day of such work, "customers" paid from 150 to 450 hryvnias - the money was received by the director
As investigators established, clients agreed with him on the type and time of work, handed over money, after which he ordered the staff to release the residents of the nursing home outside the institution.
The detainee has been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Human trafficking by prior conspiracy of a group of persons, or by an official using official position).
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment from five to twelve years with or without confiscation of property.
