Taking into account the decision of the local self-government body, we ask you not to submit to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a draft resolution on renaming the city of Brovary, Brovary district, Kyiv region, to the city of Brovary

The document also states that when deciding on the need to preserve the current name of the city, the Brovary City Council relied on the position of the residents. And also on the professional conclusions of scientists.

This project (the decision of the city council - ed.) is substantiated by an expert assessment of the Institute of History of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine dated 19.12.2023, No. 123/482, a historical reference of the Research Institute of the Cossacks of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine dated No. 48/1 of 08.05.2024 and recommendations of the Institute of Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine of 26.12.2023 No. 307/86

 , the petition states.

Optional

A resolution to rename Brovary to Brovary was previously registered by a group of MPs led by a representative of the Golos faction, Roman Lozynsky.

The mayor of Brovary, Ihor Sapozhko, noted that by voting at the extraordinary session, the deputies confirmed the position of the majority of Brovary residents who oppose the change of the city's name.

Given that the initiative to rename the city has been repeatedly considered by the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada, and that we have repeatedly submitted our appeals with certain justifications, the deputies today decided to approve the relevant decision of the local government and appeal to the Verkhovna Rada to retain the historical name of the city of Brovary. In my opinion, taking into account independent polls, with today's vote, when 24 deputies supported the appeal to the Verkhovna Rada, we have clearly expressed the opinion of the residents that the city should be called Brovary

 - said Ihor Sapozhko in an exclusive comment to UNN.
