The incident occurred at a time when there were many people sitting on benches in the waiting area under the canopy, local media reported. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident, and access to the station is restricted.
The station building, which was built in 1964, has recently undergone major repairs, but the concrete canopy structure has not been updated, the press service of the Serbian railroad structures said.
Local authorities declared three days of mourning in Novi Sad, and a national day of mourning is planned for November 2.
