The Chinese Foreign Ministry commented on the situation in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, calling on the parties to adhere to the principles of de-escalation. China will continue to liaise with the international community for a political settlement of the crisis.

"We have noted the development. China’s position on the Ukraine issue is consistent and clear. The Chinese side calls on all parties to observe the three principles for deescalating the situation, namely no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting and no fueling the flame by any party. We will continue to maintain communication with the international community to play a constructive role for the political settlement of the crisis," said the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson when asked to comment on the situation in the Kursk region of Russia.

Fighting has been reported in the Kursk region of Russia since August 6, following reports of a "breakthrough" of the border and the "entry" of Ukrainian forces. A federal emergency was declared in the region. A counterterrorism operation was also introduced in the Kursk region, as well as in the Belgorod and Bryansk regions.
