EU diplomat Josep Borrell warned of a possible crisis in Venezuela if Maduro does not prove his victory in the election. The opposition is challenging the official results, and the US and other countries have condemned the election as fraudulent.

During a speech in the Spanish city of Santander, Borrell noted that the data presented by the Venezuelan opposition significantly diverged from the “official” election results.
“If Maduro continues to insist on his victory, ignoring the need to verify the results in order to have them recognized by the international community, Venezuela could find itself in a serious crisis - we are all trying to avoid that,” the EU diplomat said.
These comments came three weeks after Maduro announced his victory in the re-election, which the United States and other Western countries condemned as fraud.
Borrell urged to wait for developments, reminding that 2,000 people have already been arrested in the country, and repressions against protesters are intensifying.
He also noted the “sarcasm” in the fact that Maduro appealed to the Supreme Court of Venezuela for “protection.
