Joe Biden and his wife Jill took part in the annual tradition of lighting the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse, an area known as Presidential Park, on the south side of the White House.
"Merry Christmas to all," Biden was quoted by AP as saying after he counted down from five and the tree was lit up in festive colors.
He added that the White House holiday theme of "wonder, magic, and joy" reflects the essence of Christmas, which is about rediscovering simple joys like familiar songs and favorite recipes, showing kindness, and strengthening ties to family and friends as well as your faith.
"Each of us has the power to bring light to the world. Merry Christmas," Biden wrote on social networking site X.
