Austria without Russian gas: Ukraine's Foreign Ministry comments on Russia's energy blackmail
Kyiv • UNN
Gazprom has stopped gas transit through Ukraine to Austria. Minister Sybiha called this the use of energy as a weapon.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha says Russia is using gas as a weapon after Austria was cut off from natural gas supplies by Russia, UNN reports.
Details
"By cutting Austria off from gas, Russia is once again using energy as a weapon. However, the Austrian government will undoubtedly ensure energy security and reject blackmail. The era of Europe relying on Russian gas is over. It is time to completely cut off Russian energy profits - and the financing of the war," Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha wrote in X.
Addendum
His statement came after reports that Russia's Gazprom would stop gas transit through Ukraine to Austria on November 16.
This followed the decision of the Austrian company OMV to deduct from the accounts under the contract with Gazprom the 230 million euros received in arbitration against Gazprom. OMV then warned of a "possible suspension of gas supplies" from Russia.
