According to local authorities, there were 36 people on board: 32 tourists from India, three crew members, and one escort. 21 people managed to survive. The boat capsized about 400 meters from the shore while traveling from Hon May Rut Island to An Thoi port.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam said it is monitoring the situation and has set up emergency response centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to assist the families of the victims.
