The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 km off the northeastern coast of Amami Oshima. According to the country's Meteorological Agency, the earthquake was felt in the cities of Amami and Kagoshima. The magnitude of the tremors in some areas was 2-3 points.
Over the past five hours, six more aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 2.4 to 6 have occurred in the region.
It is noted that sea level fluctuations are likely to last 2-3 hours along the coast of the Tanegashima and Yakushima regions, Amami and Tokara islands.
