An explosion occurred in the Russian city of Murmansk near the base of the Russian Northern Fleet, which provides the aggressor country with the ability to control Arctic sea routes. This was stated by the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Andriy Kovalenko, reports UNN.
"An explosion near the Russian Northern Fleet base in Murmansk. This base provides Russia with the ability to control Arctic sea routes and access to the Arctic Ocean. It supports both surface ships and nuclear submarines," Kovalenko said .
According to him, Murmansk is home to command centers, ammunition depots, repair docks, and fleet control centers. Testing, including of Zircon missiles, also takes place there.
Kovalenko added that the direct distance from Murmansk to Ukraine is approximately 2000 km.
"The ships of the Northern Fleet are carriers of Kalibr missiles, which Russia has been launching at the territory of Ukraine during the war. The Russian Northern Fleet also performs reconnaissance and countermeasures against NATO forces with an eye to the Arctic," Kovalenko summarized.
