About 150 Russians remained in the area of operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Russia. More than 60% of the population has been evacuated from the border area of Sumy region due to intensified shelling and air strikes.

About 150 Russian citizens, mostly elderly people, remained in the area of the Ukrainian armed forces operation in the Russian Federation. Ukraine has already set up hubs there to deliver humanitarian aid. Evacuations from border communities continue amid intensified shelling in Sumy region - more than 60% of the population has left so far. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko and the head of the Sumy RMA Volodymyr Artyukh.

On the territory where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are conducting a defense operation... there are Russian citizens left. These are usually people aged 60+, elderly people. At the moment, we have already identified 150 such people in some settlements

- Klymenko said.

According to him, the main task now is to conduct a humanitarian mission so that people there receive the most basic necessities - food, drinking water and essential medicines.

An appropriate humanitarian response algorithm has been developed. When the Armed Forces enter settlements, they first of all find out how many people are there, who they are, and what needs they have. Hubs have already been set up where the authorities bring in aid in accordance with a request from the military. It is then handed over to our defense forces for further distribution

- the minister indicated .

The head of the Sumy RMA noted that the use of MLRS, artillery, and mortars has significantly decreased in the area of the border where the Armed Forces pushed the enemy deeper into Russia and the fighting was pulled away from the territory of Sumy region. However, the enemy is now compensating for the inability to use these weapons with air strikes, in particular, with drones. The rest of the contact line - the communities of Shostka, Konotop, and Okhtyrka districts - also remain under intense shelling.

According to him, since August 6 alone, four residents of the region have been killed and 16 have been wounded. At the same time, 90% of the losses were caused by the use of aerial bombs.

That is why evacuations from border communities in Sumy region do not stop. Currently, the number of people who have decided to leave the danger zone has increased significantly. More than 60% of the population has already been evacuated from the border area.

Thanks to the fact that we started evacuating Sumy region in advance, we managed to save the lives of more than 20,000 people who left the border communities in time. First of all, we are evacuating people deep into our region, and other regions of Ukraine are also providing assistance. In addition, together with international organizations and donors, we are also working to build modular housing for IDPs in our region

- said Volodymyr Artyukh.
