Responding to the statement by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen regarding the incident, Zelenskyy noted on X: "It is indeed necessary to increase pressure on Russia so that this war does not drag on or expand."
"Last night, the Russians launched a deliberate strike on our southern region – the Odesa region, which borders Romania. This was another cynical attack on civilian infrastructure in our cities and in our waters, directed against civilian container ships," Zelenskyy stated.
"One of the drones – essentially the equivalent of a 'Shahed' – also hit an ordinary residential building in Romania. We wish the injured a speedy recovery. We are ready to support Romania in any way necessary under these circumstances. We count on the European Union's new sanctions measures against Russia to be truly strong and to give Russia the sense that its strikes mean significant losses for Russia itself. This would be fair. Thank you to everyone who helps protect lives!" Zelenskyy emphasized.
