US Congress demands intelligence report on the consequences of withdrawing support for Ukraine

U.S. lawmakers have instructed the heads of intelligence agencies to submit a report on the consequences of a possible cessation of assistance to Ukraine. The report is to assess the impact on the course of the war and threats from potential US adversaries.

U.S. lawmakers want to assess what the consequences of the withdrawal of U.S. support will be for Ukraine. To this end, Congress requires intelligence chiefs to submit analytical reports within 90 days. This was reported by The Hill, according to UNN.

The lawmakers instructed the Director of National Intelligence, the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency to submit a report assessing Ukraine's fight in the war started by Russia, taking into account American assistance and the consequences for America's adversaries. 

The document was titled “Assessment of the Probable Course of the War in Ukraine.

According to The Hill, the details of the report should include the impact on the ability of the Ukrainian military to defend itself against Russian aggression if the United States continues or stops its defense and economic support, and if the United States maintains or withdraws permission to use the long-range missiles provided to strike deep into Russian territory.

The US Congress also wants intelligence chiefs to assess the impact of a possible Ukrainian defeat in the war on US national security interests, including potential further aggression from Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea.

The report should be submitted in unclassified form, but may have a classified annex, and sent to the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, as well as the Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, and Foreign Relations and Appropriations Committees

The lawmakers call for the report to be submitted within 90 days of the signing of the National Defense Authorization Law.
