Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that the government has begun preparations for the 2026/2027 autumn-winter period. It is planned that 14.6 billion cubic meters of gas will be accumulated in underground storage facilities before the start of the heating season. He announced this on Telegram, UNN reports.

Shmyhal stated that 13.2 billion cubic meters of gas have been identified as the critically necessary minimum. This volume will allow for a stable winter even in conditions of low temperatures and massive attacks.
The main preparation tasks identified by the government are:
- timely contracting of imported gas supplies;
- pumping resources into UGS facilities during periods of the lowest market prices;
- diversification of supply routes.
We understand that we continue to live in wartime conditions, when the enemy deliberately attacks, in particular, the gas infrastructure. Obviously, the next winter will take place under the same difficult circumstances as the current one. Therefore, given the situation, the forecast may be adjusted according to the security situation.
According to him, NJSC "Naftogaz of Ukraine" and the Gas Transmission System Operator are already working on booking import capacities and extending the "Vertical Gas Corridor". Special attention was paid to the repair campaign and the formation of equipment reserves for planned and emergency work in cooperation with international partners.
