European partners may finance the purchase for Ukraine of ten L-39NG Skyfox training and combat aircraft, which after modernization have gained capabilities to counter Shahed-type drones. This was reported by Defense Express, writes UNN.

According to the publication, it concerns the potential formation of an entire squadron of such aircraft. The initiative is reportedly planned to be proposed to countries that previously transferred F-16 fighters to Ukraine, including Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
In 2025, the L-39NG Skyfox received the capability to use underwing machine guns and 70-mm guided missiles FZ275 LGR. Thanks to this, the aircraft can be used not only for pilot training but also for intercepting drones.

Defense Express notes that such aircraft could complement air defense systems and help in the fight against attack drones.
Deliveries possible no earlier than 2028
According to the publication's estimates, the purchase of ten aircraft could cost between 250 and 300 million dollars, depending on the configuration and related services.
At the same time, the implementation of the project will require time. Given previous contracts of the Czech Republic and Hungary, Ukraine may receive the first L-39NG Skyfox approximately in 2028-2029. Defense Express emphasizes that this concerns a long-term strengthening of the Air Force, not a solution for the urgent needs of the front.
