Iran has submitted a new 14-point proposal to the US to end the conflict. Trump doubts the deal, as Tehran has not yet paid a high enough price.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he intends to consider a new peace proposal from Tehran, but expressed doubt about its prospects, saying that Iran has not yet "paid a high enough price," UNN reports.

Two semi-official Iranian news agencies, Tasnim and Fars, which are believed to be close to Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, reported that Iran sent a new 14-point proposal to the U.S. via Pakistan.

"I'll let you know about that later," Trump said of the proposal on Saturday before boarding Air Force One, adding that "they're going to give me the exact wording now."

Shortly after speaking with reporters, Trump posted a message on social media regarding the new proposal, stating that he "cannot imagine it will be acceptable, as they have not yet paid a high enough price for what they have done to humanity and peace over the last 47 years."

Context

Trump rejected a previous Iranian proposal earlier this week. However, a truce in the war initiated by the United States and Israel in late February has been in effect since April 8, and one round of peace talks in Pakistan has already failed.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi told diplomats in Tehran: "The choice between the diplomatic path and the continuation of a confrontational approach now lies with the United States."

Iran, he said, is "ready for both paths."

As a reminder

Iran has offered the United States of America a new deal to unblock the Strait of Hormuz and end the mutual siege.
