US President Donald Trump stated that he is looking forward to a "very special" dinner with French President Macron, as he wants to see the Palace of Versailles because there is "a lot of gold," UNN reports with reference to the Guardian.
In addition, Trump hopes that Europe will "find its way," as it is "going through a lot of difficult times" with energy and immigration.
Context
As AP reports, French President Emmanuel Macron previously justified his decision to roll out the red carpet for Trump, including a dinner at the Palace of Versailles later on Wednesday.
"Versailles is a diplomatic tool and a tool of influence," Macron said.
Using a football analogy, Macron said he approaches diplomacy like the French national team: "Whether I am playing at home or away, my goal is to score goals. And when I host other teams, I try to welcome them well."
